Leeds Laces FC Narrow Loss v Rothwell JFC Women

This Sunday, Leeds Laces welcomed Rothwell JFC Women to town in a seven-goal thriller which narrowly ended in disappointment at the final whistle.

Leeds Laces started flying, with Katie testing the keeper inside the first two minutes. One minute later Leeds Laces were ahead with a beautiful team move finished off by Cara, to stun the visitors and make it 1-0.

Rothwell shortly hit back through their number 16 in the 14th minute, but the hosts quickly had an answer, with Katie making it 2-1 just four minutes later. Lauren followed in the 39th minute, making it 3-1 and putting Leeds Laces firmly back in control.

Rothwell pulled one back right on the 45-minute mark, narrowing the goal difference just before the break.

The second half became a scramble between two very good sides, with the Laces fighting to keep their advantage. Unfortunately, Leeds Laces’ luck went from bad to worse with Rothwell levelling at 3-3 in the 62nd minute. To the dismay of every Leeds Laces player and supporter on the sideline, Rothwell were awarded a penalty just 6 minutes later and went 4-3 up.

Leeds Laces FC made multiple shots on target which flew into the keeper’s hands or just outside the post, but no matter how hard the home-side pushed the equaliser would just not come.

Despite the scoreline, this was a tight game against tough opposition, and the team should be proud of how they never stopped fighting.

Next week, the Laces host BSC Lower Hopton FC Women Reserves, so come down and get behind the team for what promises to be another cracker!

Final score: Leeds Laces FC 3 - 4 Rothwell JFC Women.
