Leeds Laces FC Triumphant 7-1 win over Forge Way Reserves

Leeds Laces did not just step up a gear in their second game of the season but found another one entirely, beating Forge Way Reserves FC 7-1 in a game that was settled long before the final whistle.

Leeds Laces started fast, with Maisie McGuire forcing a chance inside the first two minutes. Forge Way Reserves folded from the pressure and shortly after gave away a foul right on the edge of the box, which Neve O’Donnell stood up to take. Katie Watson met the resulting shot and finished, making it 1-0 after just three minutes. A statement of intent from the first whistle.

In the 13th minute an impressive run from Forge Way FC led to their number 14 making it 1-1 with Rachel Cook, yet great speed from Katie and our defence caught up with their team and negated the chance of an equaliser. This momentum maintained in the 26th minute with Rachel narrowly deflecting the ball away from goal.

In the 28th minute, Heather McCarten made a chip shot on goal, which the Forge Way keeper caught but then let go in the action, allowing Noor Duncan to swoop in and score, making it 2-0. Just three minutes later Katie scored again, making it 3-0 in the 31st minute.

The next 15 minutes became a performance to admire as Leeds Laces' defence shrugged off all of Forge Way's hard work, after an impressive run from Forge Way was intercepted by Alyssa Connor, skilling up three players and reaching the halfway line from the box.

At the 42nd minute Maisie made a shot that hit the woodwork and went out, leading to the ref calling for half time (albeit slightly prematurely).

In the second half Leeds Laces FC got straight back to it and only took four minutes to add another to the scoreline, making it 4-0 in the 49th minute. The next 30 minutes hosted an array of close efforts that narrowly missed the net from Neve, Katie and Maisie. However, in the 79th minute Leeds Laces did what they do best, as Maisie made a shot which the keeper fumbled, allowing Maisie a second attempt which flew into the back of the net, making it 5-0.

Unfortunate for Forge Way, Leeds Laces FC were far from done. Just four minutes later, after impressive linking play between Maisie and Katie, Katie passed it to Neve to shoot, making it 6-0.

To top off a game full of drama, in the 90th minute Forge Way managed to get one back. The five-goal difference couldn’t be dwelled on for too long, though, as in the last minute of extra time Katie made a powerful shot from outside the box to make it 7-1.

After a monumental display from Leeds Laces FC, the ref blew the whistle to stop the game.

The player of the match award sponsored by Hans Global was awarded to Katie, after an impressive hattrick and an even more impressive game.

A 7-1 win that leaves no doubt to where Leeds Laces FC are heading. With two games into the season and two exciting results, the stage is set for what will unmistakeably be an exciting debut season for Leeds Laces FC.
