Leeds Laces FC Tough Test vs 23FC on the Road
On Sunday, Leeds Laces FC hit the road for the first away game of the season, coming up against a very strong Twenty-Three FC side. Twenty-Three FC have had two huge results so far in the league, so we knew that this game was going to be tough.
Almost immediately Leeds Laces FC were put through their paces and conceded a goal in the opening 5 minutes. Yet, this seemed to only fire up our side and in the 6th minute we were given a corner and a powerful header from Heather McCarten was narrowly saved by the 23FC keeper. 23FC were clearly unnerved, and not even a minute later a loose 23FC throw-in fell to Heather, who made no mistake, scoring to level it at 1-1.
23FC quickly responded, making it 2-1 in the 8th minute. Coming off the back of two excellent results, 23FC may have expected a more straightforward contest. However, Leeds Laces FC quickly established themselves as a fierce and determined opponent, preventing what could have been another huge scoreline for the home side. Leeds Laces continued to frustrate 23FC and showed that they were not going to make the match easy. After holding them off for the rest of the first half, Leeds Laces conceded again in the 45th minute, sending 23FC into half-time with a 3–1 lead.
A tough start for both teams. Leeds Laces FC defending with all they have, and 23FC unsettled after a scoreline they had not anticipated.
The second half was just as challenging. A very technical 23FC side ramped up their physicality as they gunned for more goals, but Leeds Laces FC played with enthusiasm and a cool-headed composure producing a performance Leeds Laces FC can be proud of.
The final whistle blew with the scoreline 5-1 to Twenty-Three FC. A tough side and a difficult game, the odds were not in our favour, but we still produced a display that embodies our Laces values.
